Birdell Hunter

Birdell Cox Hunter was born September 3, 1903 to Emma Hunter Cox and Edward Cox in Jackson County, Statham, Georgia. She was one of nine children. She departed this life January 12, 2003 at the Mt. Healthy Christian Home. She was united in holy wedlock to the late Eleazer Hunter on October 30, 1926. To this union, eight children were born: Alma Murrell, Pauline Hunter, Doris (Edward) Thompson, Shirley Mahone, Irene (James) Ruffin and Nancy Hunter, all from Cincinnati, Ohio, Beatrice (Melvin) Mitchell and James Hunter from Ravenna, Ohio, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grand-children and four step-grandchildren. 


 

At an early age, she joined the Fairfield Baptist Church in Statham, Georgia. There she served until she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1926 and united with Second Baptist Church of West College Hill, under the leadership of the late Reverend A. W. Jackson, DD. There she remained until death. 


 

She leaves to mourn: sister-in-laws, Lula Cox and Claire Young; brother-in-laws, Charlie Hunter and wife, Mildred, Herbert Hunter and wife, Fayette; a close cousin, Essie Cox Bell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
