Samuel Cox
1931-10-24 2020-04-14Samuel Cox, son of late Morgan C. Cox and Susie (Hill) Cox was born on October 24, 1931. He was one of five children born to this marriage. His sisters, Thelma Cox Rawls, Emma L. Cox and his brothers, Richard L. Cox, Prince E. Cox preceded him in death.
Sam served honorably in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in combat during the Korean War.
Sam graduated from North College Hill High School where he excelled in sports (track, football, baseball) and academics. He received the Bausch and Lomb Award for physics in senior year. In 1986, he was inducted in the NCHH Hall of Fame for his achievements as a Running Back. He graduated from Fisk University earning a degree in Chemistry. Sam also graduated from the University of Cincinnati.
Sam spent 30 years of his career at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). When he retired from the FDA, Sam was employed at Dubois Chemicals as a chemist. His final employment was at Comair (Delta) before settling into retirement.
In 1983, Sam married Margaret (Brown) Cox “Peggy” who preceded him in death. Sam and Peggy were world-wide travelers. Sam was loving and a family man. Spending time with his family, friends, and children was his favorite pastime. Sam had a pleasant disposition. You would never see him lose his temper. He loved to watch sports - especially tennis and golf.
Sam leaves Randy (Norma) Brown, George Stevens and Keith Lopez, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to celebrate his memories and to remember him in the highest esteem. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
To those of you that knew Sam, knew that he was a kind man. He had a calm sense about him He was a humble man and loved life and his family. He truly will be missed.
